Obituary for Phyllis C. Arbaiza

Phyllis C. Arbaiza
Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Phyllis Arbaiza, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on February 3, 2021.

Phyllis was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on August 23, 1932, to parents Elpidio and Ana Maria (Vera) Carmona. The fifth of seven children, she enjoyed dancing, laughing, and singing; activities she cherished throughout her life. An effervescent person, she traveled the world with family and friends, but still found joy in prayerful reflection as a member of the Legion of Mary and an active parishioner at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, Virginia. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, with whom she shared her deep faith and love of crafting.

Survivors include brother, Hank Carmona; daughters Sara (James) Higgins, Elaine (CDR Michael, USNR-Ret) Wagaman, Lauri (Col. Ray, USMC-Ret) White, and Lee (Rick) Hutchinson; grandchildren Br. Thomas Mary Wagaman, O.P., Katy Higgins (Patrick) Neyland, Ph.D., Colin (Taylor) White, Andrew (Nichole) Arbaiza, Beth (Dylan) Costello, Danielle Wagaman, James (Alejandra) Higgins, Peter Dominic Wagaman, Katrina (Spec. Hans, USA) Chavez, Lisa Wagaman, Jerry White, and ND3 Joseph (Chloé) White, USN; great grandsons Caiden, Cohen, and Colston White, Thomas Neyland, and Zion Chavez; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and in-laws.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Mary Arbaiza; sisters Esther Carmona, Frances Joswick, Inez Carmona, and Sr. Ana Marie Carmona; and brother Salvador Carmona.

A funeral mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, Virginia on February 9, 2021 at 10 a.m., with interment at Stonewall Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dominican Order, to which her oldest grandchild belongs (www.opcentral.org), or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
