Obituary for Ralph William Timko

Ralph William Timko
Ralph William Timko, 83, of Manassas, VA, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2022. Ralph was born in Pittsburgh, PA, July 7, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Timko, brothers Joseph and John, and by many beloved aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Dalton Timko, son Peter Timko (Erin), grandsons Pierce, Aidan, Thomas, and Patrick. His daughter Bridgette Emo (Todd), grandsons Matthew, Andrew, TJ (Morgan), Jacob (Sandra), and several great grandchildren. Ralph is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Luna (Lloyd) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A grandson of Slovakian immigrants, Ralph, always had a strong work ethic. Growing up he worked as a "soda jerk" at the famed Islay's Ice Cream Shoppe and a steel worker at the Homestead Steel Mills where he saw former Russian President Khrushchev on his tour of America. Ralph loved to dance and stated he was a great rock and roll dancer. He liked singing in his Catholic school, but the nuns said he was too loud and suggested he was better suited to be an altar boy. He was enrolled at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University for a semester before enlisting in the Air Force. While in the Air Force, Ralph was a navigator for the F-101 Voodoo Fighter serving in Greenland. Following the completion of his military career he was recruited by IBM in Endicott, NY. Ralph and his family transferred to Manassas, VA where he was promoted to Maintenance Manager of the IBM complex.

Ralph was a student of math and sciences, and constantly encouraged his grandsons to pursue career paths in those fields. He also loved discussing history and politics. Every year for his birthday we celebrated with the Grandpa Timko Golf Tournament. It started with a "best drive" competition to now playing 9 holes. Following the golf tournament are a series of trivia questions and then some sort of puzzle created by Ralph. An avid supporter of his grandchildren's education- the grand prize has always been a generous gift to go towards their education.

The incredible life that Bonnie and Ralph built together spans more than 55 years. After marrying in July of 1966, the pair moved to Manassas, Virginia in 1970 where their storied life together unfolded, and their beloved family would ultimately take root and grow. They had precious adventures as a couple from owning a chocolate shop to traveling around the world. Spending time with the love of his life Bonnie and their family was Ralph's greatest joy. Ralph was a man of faith, strong convictions, a huge smile, a loud belly laugh, and huge amounts of love for his family and country. Ralph will be deeply missed not only by his family but by all who knew him.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Chapel at 6430 Token Forest Drive, Manassas, Virginia, 20112.
