Obituary for Robert Phillip Seymour

Robert Phillip Seymour
Robert (Bob) was born in Alexandria on August 11, 1937 to Robert Alton and Ruth Etta Seymour. He was the youngest of eleven children

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Rosemary, daughter Marie, son Alan and his wife Julia, son Michael, and his wife Amy, grandchildren Gabriel, Nicholas, Daniel, and Victoria, and many nieces and nephews.

Bob worked for Fairfax Country for 32 years, starting in 1956 driving the book mobile. He then moved to Facilities Management as a painter and was promoted to supervisor. He retired from the country in 1987.

Bob was known to all for his great sense of humor. He had many ways to make you laugh, including practical jokes. His family joined in the fun by giving him silly nicknames: Egbert, Mooney, and Worm.

Always an active and hardworking man, Bob had many outdoor interests: hunting, fishing, gardening, taking care of dogs, squirrels and birds, and camping. He also enjoyed just being in the woods,

Bob was always willing to help others, whether they were family, friends, or strangers.

He was a very active member of Oakton Baptist Church, where he had many loving friends. He was a deacon, usher, and Awana teacher for the children. He was also a cook and helped with construction and events. He was always available when needed.

Throughout his long life, family was always very important to Bob. Growing up in such a large family, there were lots of birthdays, picnics, and holiday celebrations.

When he had a family of his own, they would enjoy Sunday dinners ay Granny’s. He shared his skill and experience in painting, woodworking, fishing, camping, gardening, and car maintenance with his children.

Bob had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. With Gabriel and Nicholas, he went to their school, scout, and sporting events. Each year, he enjoyed helping the boys with their Pinewood Derby cars for Cub Scouts. Although Daniel and Victoria do no live nearby, he got pleasure from their phone calls and from taking them fishing when they came to visit.

Bob and Rosemary were a team. They loved and laughed at each other throughout their lives. He taught her how to fish, especially how to put the worm on the hook. He tried to teach her how to drive. He planted a garden; she canned the vegetables. Together they raised their three children, and supported them in school, sports, and with their married families. Together they loved their children and grandchildren.

They cared for each other always, and she loved and took care of him for as long as he needed her. She was always his “Babe”, and he her “Buddy”.

The world is a less funny and loving place without Bob. We will miss him.
