Obituary for Rosalyn Parrott Stephenson

Rosalyn Parrott Stephenson
Rosalyn Parrott Stephenson, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Woodbridge, Virginia on March 11, 2020. She was born June 30, 1930 to Rozella and Thaddeus Parrott in Kingstree, South Carolina. Rosalyn was the fourth born of six children. She had two brothers and three sisters.

At 24 years old, Rosalyn met Alton Stephenson, an Airman, at a USO dance, and it was love at first sight. They were married after a three week courtship and moved to Virginia. They had two children, Robin Carol Short and Laura Lorraine Morton. Rosalyn helped support her family through her salon business, and later through a woodworking craft business.

Rosalyn loved working in her garden growing flowers and vegetables. She had a green thumb that many would envy. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and doing embroidery. Above all, Rosalyn was dedicated to the Lord. She was a member of Buck Hall Methodist Church for over twenty years. She was enthusiastic about sharing the word of the Lord.

Rosalyn is survived by her daughter Laura, her sister Barbara, and her grandchildren Kelly, Rachel, Lyndsay, David, and Sarah. She also leaves behind eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Alton, her daughter Robin, her sisters Mabel and Rosalie, and her brothers Rubin and Thaddeus.

Rosalyn’s funeral service is scheduled for 11 AM on March 17, 2020 at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center at 10001 Nokesville Road Manassas, Virginia 20110. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Her body will be laid to rest at Quantico National Cemetery at 1 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rosalyn's life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/) that supports individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and funds research for better treatment and a cure.
The family would like to especially thank the staff at Brookdale Memory Care for their efforts and dedication.
