Obituary for Rudolph Walter Mechalek

Rudolph Walter Mechalek, 78, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away at his home of liver cancer on May 5, 2020

Rudy was born on December 4, 1941 in Coal City, West Virginia. Rudy grew up in Besoco, West Virginia. He graduated from Stoco High School in 1959.

Following high school, Rudy joined the United States Navy. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He worked at his brother Frank’s Exxon Gas Station in Manassas, Virginia. In 1977, he started working for Shenandoah’s Pride Dairy as a route driver delivering milk to Prince William County Schools. He worked there for 34 years.

Rudy married his wife, Joann Buchanan Mechalek, on October 9, 1970. They lived in Manassas, Virginia for 50 years.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary (Lacek) Mechalek and one sister, Barbara Mechalek Morrissey. Rudy is survived by his wife, Joann Mechalek, his daughter, Amy Sue (Robert) Huheey, his son, Jason Rudolph Mechalek, and his granddaughter, Justine Elizabeth Huheey, all of Manassas, Virginia.

Also survived by four sisters, Elizabeth Hunt of Maryland; Bertha (Joe) D’Antoni of Maryland; Theresa Bieber of Manassas, Virginia; and Ann (Steve) Switzer of Kansas; two brothers, Frank (Connie) Michalek of Manassas; Virginia and Paul (Pam) Michalek of Minnesota.

Rudy loved the Washington Nationals, watching NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
