Obituary for Sumiko Tuckish

Sumiko Tuckish, age 84, passed away peacefully in Manassas, VA on Monday, March 18th 2019.

She was born in Pyongyang Korea of her mother Tsuna Ohuchi Ohgai and father Shigeru Ohgai.

She was married to John W. Tuckish II on December 4th 1961 in Tokyo Japan.

Her only child, Mark, was born at the U.S. Army hospital on Camp Zama Japan.

In October of 1963 the family traveled to the U.S. and Sumiko began her life abroad for the first time.

A devoted military wife, Sumiko and family relocated many times across the U.S. and came to settle in a home in 1971 on 4TH St North in Arlington, VA. There she began her career as an administrative Assistant working for Japanese affiliated companies; Japan Productivity Center, Tokyo Broadcasting System and Nikon Inc. all located in Washington DC. She was particularly beloved by the Whitehouse photographers whom had their Nikon cameras serviced at the Nikon office.

She enjoyed life, gardening, and introducing Japanese culture to many others through traditional dance, tea ceremony and flower arrangement.

She is survived by her son Mark, sister, Yayoi Noji; niece Makiko Akitomi and other relatives in Japan.

Sumiko was a kind, and loving mother. She was considerate of others, and always saw the basic good in all those around her. She never hesitated to give of herself. She will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. at Baker Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas VA. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. All Friends and family are invited to attend.
