Obituary for Sylvia Inez Frantz

Sylvia Inez Frantz passed quietly at her home in Nokesville, VA on the morning of February 15, 2019, at the age of 101.

Known to most as "Inez" or simply "Nez," she was the eighth of ten children born to Joseph and Nancy King, who worked as sharecroppers on a farm near Ramer, Tennessee.

After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, Inez found work in Memphis. There, she met Corporal Donald H. Frantz, then undergoing basic training in the US Army. They were married two weeks later, in 1943, and went on to enjoy 64 years together, until Don’s death in 2007.

Their life together was loving, fulfilling and eventful: living overseas, travels at home, dancing, growing vegetables, hiking, playing bridge, having adventures. A fine cook and an unflappable hostess, Inez was the calm center of it all, dispensing kindness, nourishment and wisdom to family and friends alike.

Their greatest adventure and source of pride was raising four children who loved them dearly: Garrison King, Donna Gail, John Charles and Michele Ann.

Inez is survived by three of her children, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many beloved friends. She will be missed by all.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas, Virginia. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

A reception will immediately follow the service at the church.

Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
