Obituary for Theresa C. Lee
Theresa Cardinal Lee, 59, died peacefully in her home on January 28, 2020. She was born October 1, 1960 in New York City to Robert Vincent Cardinal and Marie Lucy Cardinal, who both preceded her in death. Theresa is survived by her loving husband and partner in life of over 40 years Daniel Lee, children Lauren Lee McCarthy and Dylan Lee, son-in-law Hugh McCarthy, daughter-in-law Katie Lee, and two grandsons Everett and Louis McCarthy.
The oldest of four siblings, Theresa is also survived by her sister Barbara Thompson and brothers Bobby Cardinal and Michael Cardinal.
From the day she moved into the house across from his on Dexter Court in December 1976, she loved doing life with Danny. At Virginia Tech, they built a family of loving friends together and often shared memories of their adventures. She graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and always enjoyed returning to Blacksburg with family and friends. She enthusiastically took up golf, and loved finding an ocean or mountain-view to enjoy.
While excelling in her career in government contracting and raising her family, Theresa found time to do everything. She baked birthday cakes, sewed Halloween costumes, kept the scorebook and worked the snack-bar while Dylan played baseball, and she was instrumental in running the high school band boosters with Lauren.
Theresa’s life was driven by her love and caring for others. She was quick to open her home, fix up a guest room, pour a glass, cook a meal, and make you feel welcome. Part of her legacy is crocheted into blankets and scarves in the homes of many of her cherished nieces, nephews and friends. She served her community as a religious education teacher at All Saints Catholic Church and by contributing her time and talents to charitable organizations like SERVE and Knots of Love.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Rd, Manassas, VA 20110 with Rev. Lee Roos as the celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, Theresa’s family would be honored to have contributions made in her memory to the National Brain Tumor Society.
