Obituary for Tomas Gustavo Gil, Jr.

Tomas Gustavo Gil, Jr.
Tomas Gustavo Gil Jr. of Woodbridge, VA passed away on December 21, 2020 in Washington DC due to complications of multiple health conditions as well as the COVID-19 virus.

Born on March 12, 1971 to Gustavo and Phyllis Gil in Phoenix, AZ Tomas enjoyed an AMAZING childhood traveling the world with his parents in support of his fathers’ career. His father was a Venezuelan Hall of Fame Baseball Player, who later played/coached multiple teams in Major League Baseball. These experiences forged Tomas’ love of sports. Be it baseball, football (American), Hockey or volleyball he was either active in local leagues or rooting on the home teams. He was even a writer for the AA Bluefield Sports Page and an announcer for them as well, sharing his love for the game with other fans.

In 1999 Tomas met the love of his life, Carrie, whom he later married in 2004. While Tomas and Carrie did not have children of their own, they were actively involved in the lives of their nieces and nephews and built a life together.

Throughout his life Tomas was a friend to all and would give the shirt of his back to a friend in need (this literally happened on a few occasions). He has left an enormous void in the lives of many, a person of his caliber does not come along every day. The impact of his life even carried over to his professional life where he was highly respected by his peers.

Tomas was preceded in death by his Father Gus, Father-In-Law David, his Uppa (Grandfather), Umma (Grandmother) and many beloved Tia’s and Tios. He is survived in death by his Wife Carrie, Mother Phyllis, Mother-In-Law Denise, Brother-In-Law David (Jenny), Sister-In-Law Lisa (Eddie) and nieces/nephews Danielle, Jacob, Zachary, Gavin, Maddie, Cessy and Mariah as well as many aunts/uncles/cousins who reside in Alaska.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later-date once the Pandemic has subsided.
