Obituary for Willard David Viar

Willard David  Viar
Willard David Viar, 83, of Gainesville, passed away September 7, 2020 at the Adler Center for Caring surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert Edward Viar and Fannie Jane (Hunt) Viar. He was married to his life partner of more than 49 years, the former Shirley Diane Plaster, who survives.

Mr. Viar was a veteran of the United States Army. After his service was complete, he worked in construction building houses. In his later years he worked as a farmer for the former Adams and Sons Farming Co. where he maintained 2000 acres, baled hay, handled 185 head of cattle, and 75 chickens. Outside of farming, he inspired many players and coached basketball for 38 years with the assistance of his son Justin for over 15 years. Willard was also a very active coach in the slow-pitch softball circuit for 25 years between women’s, men’s, and co-ed teams.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings; Joseph Viar; Robert M. Viar; Lawrence Viar; Thomas Dale Viar; James Luther Viar; Leonard Viar; John B. Viar; Mary Jane Fitzgerald; Lelia Louise Viar; Gladys Fagan; Florence Josephine Senecal; and Ruby Virginia Viar.

Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Diane Viar; his four children, Tracey Ann Raleigh and her husband Joesph Raleigh; Willard David Viar Jr. and his wife Tracey; Christine Marie Lima and her wife Helen; Justin Doran Viar; 2 siblings, Dora Elizabeth Isner; and Annie Mae Bussart; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and 1 great- grandchild due in March, 2021.

At Mr. Viar’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private interment will take place at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
