Condolences

Condolence From: Tim Whalen
Condolence: I met Bill for the first time back in 1987. I was a very young and green engineer and he was a well respected highly sought after senior engineer. At first I was intimidated but he took the time to answer my questions and he treated me as a peer. It was a great first impression of the man and for the next 33 years he never disappointed me. Bill lived by the old IBM mantra 'Respect for the Individual'. I was able to know Bill out side of work as well and really valued his opinions and friendship. I will miss you Bill.

Condolence: I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was a such a wonderful person and great to talk with about a myriad of topics. I recall first meeting Bill over 25 years ago. He had come into a lab to help debug a problem. He soon suspected that the digital multimeter we were using was giving us an unreliable measurement. He returned with an old analog ammeter that helped us quickly get to the root of the problem, all the while teaching me about the internals of the two devices and the phenomenon that made the DMM unreliable in this case. I've long forgotten the technical details, but I will always remember his incredible intellect, patient tutelage and unfailing kindness; he will be greatly missed.

Condolence: I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Bill a short time before his retirement but it was enough to know that he was a very kind man. I could always hear him coming down the hall to get his coffee in the morning. He would always stop at my office to ask how I was doing and would discuss current news or what was going on with him. I'm sad to hear of his passing and extend my deepest condolences to your family.

Condolence: I was fortunate to have Bill as a coworker and friend for 30 years. When he was not educating me with power equations and helping my program team solve an issue, we were discussing everything from technology to politics to 2A and precious metals. Bill was always there for anyone who needed advice or a hand with something at their home. He will be missed greatly. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and prayers for peace and comfort for the family.

Condolence: Bill was a great person and any of us who were lucky enough to work with him were very blessed. He was SUCH an incredibly smart and talented engineer, but never made any of the rest of us feel inferior or less capable. He taught, mentored and motivated each of us to improve regularly. Bill will be missed immensely! My most heartfelt condolences to you and your entire family. Prayers for your comfort and strength.

Condolence: sending my condolences, rest in internal peace John 14:1-26 14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Condolence: I have worked with Bill for 25 years. Bill is one of the most amazing people I have known. Crazy smart, crazy kind, crazy funny and sometimes just crazy! I love the boldness in how he lived. Tough as nails and someone that made this world a better place everyday. He would find any opportunity to be a mentor, help me with home repairs and inspired me to put in a GEO Thermal heating system at home. The thing I will always remember about Bill is when he asked how you were doing, he meant it. The tone was genuine and caring. He will be on my list of folks to see on the other side when my time comes.

Condolence: I am sorry to hear of Bills passing this week. I had the privilege of working for him in my last days at IBM and respected him, a lot. I will always remember following him down the hall at work one day and observed him bend down and pick up some paper in the hall. He did not see me and thought he was alone but as a manager he took enough pride in our company to pick up trash in the hallway. Bill was a real person and always had time to listen to others - with interest. Rest in peace Bill!
