Charles Patrick “Chuck” Smith, 64, passed away August 14, 2014 in his home in Ashburn, VA after a long battle with lung cancer.

Born, January 16, 1950, to the late Charles Henry and Patricia Mary (Behan) Smith, in Boston, Massachusetts, Chuck graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School. He married Anita Nannette “Nan” Smith on October 28, 1990, who survives.

Mr. Smith obtained his MA in Criminal Justice from Trinity Southern University in Dallas, TX in 2003. He held a secret (DOD & DOS) security clearance and has received too many awards, citations, and recognitions to list.
His employment included the General Manager of Club Pet International; Kennel Master; AMK9 - Baghdad Embassy Security Force; Guardsmark, LLC; Ashby Ponds Retirement Community Security Force; Vice President, Pacific Operations, American Detection Technologies, Inc.; he was also contracted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum thru Wackenhut Services, Inc./ Omiplex World Services, Inc.; Counter Technology, Inc/Explosive Countermeasures; International, Inc. (ECI); Contractor for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; 1997 retired from the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, COIII Lieutenant, K9 Unit Commander & K9 Tactical Team Commander; Rutland Police Department (part time Police Officer); United States Army Reserve – Combat Engineer, obtaining the rank of Staff Sgt. During the Vietnam War Era.

Chuck was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and was an ancient free & accepted Mason of Caleb Butler Lodge, Ayer, MA. He also is a past member of MCOU (Massachusetts Correctional Officers Union). He cherished his moments playing with his grandchildren and enjoyed his beloved New England Patriots.
Besides his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy T. (Smith) Montalvo and Judith A. (Smith) Burgo.

He is survived by his lovely wife; his daughters, Sheryl A. Smith of FL; Kristen S. Boggs (Carl), of South Riding, VA; Valerie J. Sherman (fiancé of Richard B. Sullivan); sons, Shawn C. Smith of FL; Douglas J. Sherman (Delores), of Rutland MA; grandchildren, William G. Winters, Reagan G. Boggs, Jayden A. Sherman, Kennedy H. Boggs, Juliana M. Sherman, and Avery P. Sullivan. Chuck also is survived by his sisters, Virginia R. Thornhill of Buzzards Bay, MA and Susan M. Souza (Larry) of New Bedford, MA; and brothers, Edward E. Smith, of FL; Michael C. Smith of Tiverton, RI; Kevin D. Smith; and Thomas F. Smith, both of New Bedford, MA.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 18, 2014, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A Masonic service will be held in the Funeral Home chapel beginning at 6:45 p.m., followed by a tribute and remembrance service at 7:00 p.m.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147, with Reverend James C. Hinkle as the celebrant.

Pall Bearers: Douglas Sherman, Richard Sullivan,Carl Boggs, Billy Winters, Bob Rollins and Lloyd Boggs. Honorary Pall Bearers: Jayden Sherman, Larry Brooks, Michael Smith, Kevin Smith, Bruce Allen and Brian Montalvo.

Interment will be at a later date.

There will be a memorial to take place in Rutland, Massachusetts, at a date to be announced soon.
