Obituary for Adelard Lionel Brault Jr.

Adelard Lionel Brault, Jr., 77 years old of Bristow, VA, passed away on April 21, 2015.

Born on May 14, 1938 in Washington DC. He was the son of a highly acclaimed Virginia State Senator, Ad (Adelard) Brault Sr. and Clarice Covington. He grew up in a religious family.

Ad graduated from Gonzaga High School, DC. He earned a BEE and MEE from Marquette University. Since Ad was an engineering student at Marquette, he was selected to instruct the first computer class because in those days electrical engineers taught computer classes. Inadvertently, Ad became a pioneer in the computerization of this country. He worked as an electrical engineer for 17 years for American Electrical Labs. During this time, he wrote one of the first Fortran programs that IBM used in 1975 for their first portable computer, the IBM 5100. Then in 1977, he and his college roommate founded their own company, Business Management Systems, Inc. With their company, Ad was again a pioneer in developing the first software program in Arabic.

For his spiritual side, Ad joined the Knights of Columbus on Dec. 1, 1968. He served as Recorder for George Brent Council 5332 for most of 1970-71 fraternal years before starting Council 6292, Father Diamond Council in Fairfax City. He served as Grand Knight for the first two fraternal years of the council. Ad was active in degree work and took the role of Grand Knight in First Degree Exemplification for many years. Also, he was a faithful usher for many years at St. Ambrose and then at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Amy Brault and her two children, Vincent Hermoso and Aileen with her husband Renee de Padua and their four children, are his two sisters, Nancy Jane and husband, Bill Supples and Marylyn and husband Jim Coleman; and many loving nephews and nieces.

A memorial mass for Ad Brault's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholc Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, VA 20155 by Reverend Thomas P.
