Obituary for Harry Allen Visger

Harry Allen Visger
Harry Allen Visger, 87, recently of Tallahassee, Florida, died the morning of May 11, 2015, at his residence at Saint Augustine Plantation.
He was born on July 1, 1927, in Trego, Wisconsin; he was the oldest son of Jacob Harrison (Harry) and Pearl (Wallace) Edith Visger. He graduated Spooner High School in 1945 and soon thereafter joined the Merchant Marines where he met his future brother-in-law, Elmer Breeden. In 1951, Harry married Angie Lee, daughter of Bennie and Ethel (Burke) Breeden, in Brentsville, Virginia. They lived in the house they built in Brentsville, Virginia. In 1963 they moved to their new home in Manassas, Virginia, and lived there until 1983 when they temporarily moved to Saint Cloud, Florida to assist Angie’s elderly parents. After Angie’s parents passed on, Harry and Angie remained in Saint Cloud. Harry stayed on after Angie’s death in 2004 and only recently moved to Tallahassee to be closer to family and after some health issues arose in late 2014.
Mr. Visger was a veteran of World War II and earned numerous awards during his career as a Civil Engineer including the second highest honor awarded a civilian while working in federal service. He retired early at the age of 55 spending the rest of his days pursuing personal research and hobbies. Harry was a member of the Saint Cloud Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the local Thrift Shop and Food Pantry. He was the photographer for the Saint Cloud Garden Club. Most morning Harry could be found at East Lake fishing. In addition to being an avid fisherman, he loved being outdoors taking photos of flowers and wildlife as well as tending his vegetable garden and fruit trees. In earlier years his shots of wildlife took a different form.
Harry is survived by daughter, Elaine (Bruce) Dennison, Tallahassee FL, and son Richard (Debbie) Visger, Manassas, VA; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Rupert) Lewis, Albuquerque, NM, Angie Visger, Richmond, VA and Nicholas and Rebecca Visger, Manassas, VA; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Lily and Piper Lewis, Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, John Visger, Pyatt , AR, and Jerry Visger, Shell Point, WI; sister, Irene Grooms, Culver City, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
