Andrew Jackson Dodson

Andrew Jackson (Andy) Dodson, 59, of Manassas, VA, passed away quietly at home on October 2, 2015 after a year-long battle with liver cancer.
Andy was born on May 28, 1956, in Memphis, TN to George W. and Armella (Kay) Dodson. He was a graduate of James Madison High School in Vienna, VA and received a Bachelor of Science in History from Radford College in 1978.
Andy was married to Patricia (Pat) Goodson on June 23, 1979 and the couple lived in Radford and Roanoke, VA before returning to the Washington Metro area in 1981. The family settled in Manassas, VA in 1985, where they raised their son, George Cameron, and daughter, Jessica Caroline.
Andy worked for several years for his father, Whit, in the family-held DOMAY Corporation before entering government service with the Federal Election Commission in 1986. During his 29 years with the FEC, he rose to Assistant Branch Chief before retiring in July, 2015.
Andy enjoyed the outdoors including hiking, hunting, fishing and shooting sports. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League and the NORVA Rod & Gun Club. He was also a life-long History buff, with an interest in Military History and the Civil War in particular.
Andy was an active member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church, where he was an Usher, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Men’s Group.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, son George and his wife Becca of Harrisonburg, VA, daughter Jessica, attending Virginia Tech; his mother, Kay Dodson; brother George Dodson and his wife Sheila; brother Peter Dodson, his wife Marice, and their daughters Katie and Christina.
The family will receive visitors at home on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 24, 2015, with visitation at 12:00 pm and the service at 1:00 pm.
