Obituary for Alice Suarez Schwager

Alice Suarez Schwager
Alice Saladrigas Suarez Schwager, 82-years-old, passed away on Saturday, November 7th, 2015, at Manassas Health Nursing and Rehab Center, Manassas, VA., after a lengthy battle with dementia. Her feistiness, her faith, and the love, prayers and care of family, friends and caretakers carried her through this horrible disease.
Alice was born on October 14, 1933 in Tampa, Florida to Pedro and Petra Saladrigas. She grew up in Ybor City, Tampa in a large, loving Cuban family. She was the youngest of 9 children, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. She was very proud that all her brothers served their time in WWII and Korea, Air Force, Navy, Army and Marines.
She married at 17 years of age and had four children. She managed to balance work and also be a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an amazing cook. I can still taste that delicious Cuban food.
She had a creative eye and could make anything she set her mind to. She worked hard in manufacturing, making windows and furniture. She made clothing, crocheted, knitted. She was so talented with her hands.
As dementia started progressing, she spoke less but still enjoyed eating out and having her nails manicured.
Known for her honesty and sweet nature even with total strangers, some may be surprised to learn that could be shy at times. She possessed a beautifully contagious smile. Throughout her life she worked hard and maintained a sweet demeanor that won the trust and hearts of all who knew her. Her beautiful smile will never be forgotten. She will be dearly missed but is at peace now in heaven.
She is survived by daughter and son in law, Josie (JoAnne) and Stephen Noone, son and daughter in law, Joe and Esther Suarez, Son and daughter in law, John and Kelly Suarez, daughter and son in law, Nancy (deceased) and Robert Duran.
Alice had 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Reynaldo Saladrigas, Miami, FL and Tony Saladrigas Hiram, GA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 13th from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
