Obituary for George Vernon Carver

Major George V. Carver
Retired Army Major George V. Carver passed away at his home in Fairfax, VA, on December 24, 2015. He was preceded in death by his brother Dave Carver of Tennessee, brother Ronald Carver of Canton, Georgia, and sister Barbara Grant of Jacksonville, Florida.
He is survived by his wife Fumiko Carver of Fairfax, VA, sister, Lona Harrell of Tullahoma, Tennessee, brother Glenn Carver Sr. of Jacksonville, Florida, sons Michael Carver and Stan Carver of Douglas, Georgia, Anthony Carver of Fukuoka, Japan, daughters Sherry Carver Watkins of McDonough, Georgia and Akiko Carver of Oakland, California. Further survivors are grandsons Nathan Watkins, Brian Watkins and James Carver, granddaughters Savannah Rae Carver, Chere’ Brown and Alicia Carver, great grandson Dallas Brown, Jr., as well as several nieces and nephews.
The oldest son of the late Reverend Leroy and Etta Mae Carver, he was born in Broxton, GA, in 1933. Joining the Army in 1953, Carver initially served in Korea. He was stationed in numerous other posts in the US, as well as Japan, Vietnam and Germany. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal. While serving in Vietnam, Major Carver received the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Purple Hearts, US Army Commendation Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha and a Master’s degree in real estate from the University of South Carolina. After retiring from the Army, Major Carver had a career in real estate appraisal in Washington State and the Washington, DC area. He received his MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 1988.
A memorial service will be conducted at Baker- Post Funeral Home in Manassas, Virginia on December 30, 2015. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
