Obituary for James Wyatt Bray

James Wyatt Bray
James Wyatt Bray was born early in the morning on May 23, 1981, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He spent several weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit. Wyatt was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and discharged home. This was the beginning of continually emerging complications including cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and ophthalmic. Wheelchair bound with limited vision and limited ability to communicate, Wyatt was labeled as severely mentally retarded; however, those that knew him saw more.

He would smile when happy, and seemed to recognize the voices of family and caregivers. He could be stubborn and would grind his teeth when upset. Wyatt enjoyed being taken for walks outside and also enjoyed all kinds of music. When Wyatt was two he could hold a small toy radio up to his ear, and laugh at the sound. What joy that radio brought him. Wyatt found delight in the little things.

Wyatt peacefully slipped away in his sleep May 7, 2016. Wyatt’s innocent, gentle soul touched many people. He reminded people that life is not always fair, and nothing in this life is guaranteed, but enjoy every minute. He was loved by many. He will be missed by many.

Wyatt is survived by his mother, Patricia Irvin (Monte Irvin); his father, James Bray (Kayrn); sister, Sarah Aadahl (Aaron Aadahl) and brother, Travis Irvin. His maternal grandparents Jack and Jean Montgomery were his biggest fans and supporters. His paternal grandmother is Doris Bray. Wyatt was lucky enough to have had another grandmother, Rebecca Irvin. Wyatt had many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who were always kind to him, with a thoughtful gesture, word or a prayer.

A celebration of Wyatt’s life will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia.
