Obituary for Michael John Feidt

Michael John Feidt, son of Marilyn and Jack, beloved husband of Teri and father of five, passed away June 9th, 2016, after an all too brief battle with cancer. He was 59.

A graduate of the US Naval Academy in 1979, Mike was also educated at the University of Minnesota and George Washington University. During his time at the Naval Academy, he put his athletic 6'5" frame to good use in the second row of the USNA Rugby team, and his sharp mind to good use in pursuit of a degree that prepared him for his naval engineering career. His love of the sea, formed from a childhood on the beaches of Key West, was well-served by his subsequent years of service as an officer in the Navy's aircraft carrier fleet. Post active duty, Mike served as one of the pioneer members of the Navy's Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer (DDG) program as a well respected lead design manager on the world-renowned fleet. In addition, his passion and knowledge for the land and culture of the Hawai'ian islands is legend among all who knew him.

Mike's late stage cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2014 came as a shock to all who knew him, and a supportive community of loved ones and talented medical professionals rallied around him. After a valiant 18 month battle, and in the greatest place of emotional peace, fulfillment and love that he had ever known, Mike left the mortal coil behind and embarked on his next adventure. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his burly embraces, his fine leather crafting, his appetite for terrible television shows, his relentless dedication to all things Hawai'i, his resonant singing voice, his boundless enthusiasm at rugby games, and the deep abiding love he felt and showed to his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.

Mike is survived by wife Teri, daughters Katie and Sarah, sons Mike Jr. and Alex, grandchildren Tess, Charlotte and Eleanor, beloved pup Pooka, brothers Jack and Edward, and sisters Patricia and Kathy.

Viewing and funeral services are being handled by Baker-Post Funeral Home, Manassas, VA, with interment at Quantico National Cemetery
