Obituary for Harold Clayton Shablom Jr.

Harold Clayton  Shablom Jr.
Col. Harold Clayton Shablom, Jr., U.S. Army Retired, age 56, of Haymarket, passed away suddenly on October 8, 2016, at the Novant Health—UVA Prince William Medical Center.

Born July 24, 1960, in Elmira, NY, he was the son of Harold and Daisy Hill Shablom. On May 27, 1989, in Southport, ME, he married the former Nancy Ellis, who survives.

Harold was a 1983 graduate of The United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, and served on Active Duty in the Army for 5 years; he served for another 25 years in the United States Army Reserve, retiring after achieving the rank of Colonel. He worked as an engineer for ExxonMobil for 28 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1799 in Haymarket, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Haymarket.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Nancy Shablom of Haymarket; three children, Clayton Shablom and his wife Caitlyn of Fort Sill, OK; Nicholas Shablom of Haymarket; Elizabeth Shablom also of Haymarket; one sister, Sylvia Dawson and her husband Ray of Piedmont, SC; and one brother, Clifford D. Shablom and his wife Marilyn of Portsmouth, RI.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6750 Fayette St, Haymarket, VA 20169, with The Rev. Sean K. Rousseau officiating.

Interment will take place in the Historic West Point Cemetery, on the grounds of the United States Military Academy at a later date.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the West Point Class of ’83 Gift Fund.
