Obituary for Stephen Brian Donnelly

Stephen Brian Donnelly
Stephen Brian (Steve) Donnelly lost his 21-month battle with cancer on February 15th, 2018 at his Clifton, VA home. Born January 8th, 1972 in Salina Kansas, he was a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa American Indians, sharing that heritage with the Ojibwa (Chippewa) Nation. Steve is survived by fiancée Trish Wilt, son Robert Stephen, daughter Jessi Brynn, all of the home; and by parents Thomas P. and Karen W. Donnelly of Centreville; sisters Lisa Marie Donnelly of Baltimore and Virginia Lynn Geronimo of Culpeper, VA; nine nieces and nephews, several beloved half brothers and sisters, a large extended family, and friends too numerous to count.

A 1992 graduate of Chantilly HS, Steve spent four years in the US. Navy and eventually returned to school, graduating from NOVA and George Mason with a self-designed degree in Legal Studies, following his late grandfather, Robert T. Donnelly of Missouri into the legal profession. He worked initially in the legal offices of the Department of Homeland Security and was serving in the Department of Justice at the time of his death.

Steve was a devoted father, a loving son, and a quick-witted, joke-loving punster. He gladly helped any and all who needed him, dispensing his own quiet counsel and comfort in the small ways that mattered most. He loved animals, the outdoors, writing, learning, his red Mustang, the profession of law, and his many friends – but nothing so much as his family.

Visitation will be from 10 AM to noon on Thursday, Feb 22nd at Baker-Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA with service immediately following. Interment will be at 2 PM at Fairfax Memorial Gardens. Those attending the interment are requested to assemble at the small white office building at 4401 Burke Station Rd, Fairfax, VA.

Anyone wishing to honor Steve with a charitable donation may do so by contributing to the American Cancer Society, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, or Vitas Hospice.
