Obituary for Joyce Elizabeth Baker

Joyce Elizabeth Baker
Joyce Fletcher Baker was born August 29, 1937, and went home to the Lord on March 18, 2024, at 86.

Joyce was born in Warrenton, Virginia to the late Robert Lee Fletcher and Elsie Lee Fletcher. Growing up on a farm, Joyce and her sisters, Barbara and Roberta, were often called upon to help with caring for animals and working around the house with their mother. While in high school, Joyce was active in her school’s basketball team and a variety of other activities. Joyce had a strong bond with her two sisters and shared many wonderful life experiences with them. Directly following high school, Joyce worked for the CIA as a secretary and later left that job to marry and start her family. Joyce was the proud mother of four children, Michael, Cathy, Cindy, and Theodore (Ted). Joyce later married Daniel J. Baker and added Dan’s adopted sons, Ronnie and Ricky Baker, to the family. Joyce was a retiree of Prince William County Schools where she served many roles.

In life, one of her favorite titles was grandma, and she was honored to be the grandmother to 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. In her later years, Joyce enjoyed being a caregiver to many neighborhood children who considered her “Grandma” as well. Throughout the community and family, Joyce was known for her skills in the kitchen and her beautiful sewing. Joyce was an avid quilter and created many cherished family heirlooms.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Daniel J. Baker, Stepsons, Ronnie and Ricky Baker, Sister and Brother-in-law, Barbara and A.G. Boyer. She is survived by her children Michael W. Pullin (wife Donna), Cathy L. Pullin, Cindy A. Bush, Theodore (Ted) R. Pullin; sister Roberta and husband Mike McGhee, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 15305 Vint Hill Road, Nokesville VA, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with memorial service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Stonewall Memory Gardens immediately following the memorial service.
