Obituary for Barbara Ann Deemer

Barbara Ann  Deemer
Barbara Ann (Smith) Deemer, 62, a resident of Nokesville, Virginia, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 23, 2021. Previous to living in Nokesville, she had lived in Arlington, Virginia and Panama City, Florida.

Born July 21, 1958 in Arlington, Virginia to Benjamin W. and Eleanor Louise (Batschelet) Smith, Sr., she married James M. Deemer on June 16, 1990. She was a graduate of George Washington University, in Washington, D.C.

Barb worked for Sallie Mae/Navient and was Comptroller of the company for some time. She took time off to care for her mother and later returned to work there. Barb returned to the company, first as a Consultant and later to full time where she made her way to Vice President of Data Governance until her departure.
Barbara was a member of Nokesville Church of the Brethren where she shared her time and talents. She served on numerous committees, was a hymn leader, member and soloist in the choir and performed in the bell choir.

She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly thirty-one years, James M. Deemer and their two adoring children David M. Deemer and Stephanie (Bowen) Deemer. She is also survived by four siblings and their spouses: Carolyn S. (Smith) and Robert M. Bartels, Benjamin W. Smith, Jr. and Joan, Gail M. (Smith) and John M. Carten, and her twin, Glen W. Smith and Marilee.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., virtually through Facebook.
