Obituary for Carol Joan Wolcott (Kincaid)

Carol Joan Wolcott (Kincaid)
Carol Joan Wolcott, 91, died on December 13, 2023, peacefully in her home in Manassas, Virginia.

She was the devoted wife to Charles Harry Wolcott for 64 years, who predeceased her in 2020. Her three sons survive her. They are Kevin Wolcott and wife Margo of Reston, Virginia, Mark Wolcott and wife Marcia of Manassas, Virginia, and Scott Wolcott of Manassas, Virginia. Carol is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was born on March 30, 1932, in Astoria, Oregon to Ida Evelyn Iverson Kincaid and Robert D. Kincaid. After high school graduation she attended Oregon State University from fall of 1950 to 1954 achieving a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. While attending college, she joined Delta Zeta Sorority and was initiated into the Chi Chapter and in 2016 she received the Order of the Pearl for 65 years of membership. Upon graduating, Carol worked in an accounting firm in Portland Oregon for 3 years and married Charles in 1956. After her husband left the Air Force, they both joined the State Department and were stationed in a number of places and were able to travel to Jordan, Syria, and Europe. Their final assignment was Angeles City in the Philippines near Clark Air Base where Kevin and Mark were born. Then Charles joined the Army and Carol took their two boys to live in Salem, Oregon for 2 years. In, 1964, the family moved to Manassas, Virgina where they had their third son, Scott in 1966. Carol then went back to school for a teaching certificate at George Mason University. Upon graduating in 1968, she started to substitute teach while raising her boys. In 1974, she joined the business department at Stonewall Jackson High School and taught typing, accounting and advanced accounting and retired after teaching for 20 years in 1994. Her only regret was her two oldest boys never learned the proper way to type. While teaching, she continued to learn and kept up with the latest computer technology as well as spending time at home preparing lesson plans and grading papers.
Besides teaching and raising her family, Carol also enjoyed cooking, sewing/crocheting, gardening, and playing the piano and occasionally singing a tune. She was a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church and marched her three boys there every Sunday.

She enjoyed the company of others and was always a gracious hostess when visiting with friends and family. Carol occasionally would head back to Astoria with her family to attend high school reunions and visit her extended family.

She had a great sense of humor and sometimes flashed a mischievous grin when she was up to something, but she always did it in a loving and giving way.

Carol’s memorial service will be at Baker-Post Funeral Home on December 22 with a viewing at 10:00 am and a memorial service at 11:00 am. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and the students that she taught for many years. Carol will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date and will be buried with her husband, Charles. Rest in peace good and faithful servant!
