Charles Hoyett Wilbanks, 87, a longtime resident of Manassas Park, VA passed away suddenly on July 13, 2019 at Novant Prince William Medical Center.

He was born to Harvey Hoyett Wilbanks and Frankie Davis Wilbanks on November 3, 1931 in Ripley, MS. As a young man, he resided in Ripley, MS where he graduated from Shady Grove High School. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and was proud to serve as a member of the Air Police. He was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class in 1955.

He was married to Ruby Milam on February 19, 1966 in Alexandria, Virginia. They were married for 54 years and raised two children together. Originally residing in Mississippi but eventually settling in Manassas Park, Virginia. Charles retired from the daily grind of working as an ASE Master Technician Auto Mechanic in 1997. He enjoyed passing time making jokes, laughing, napping and waiting for his wife to retire in 2012 to bug her all day! They enjoyed the exercise of walking at Manassas Mall most days and the fellowship of the many everyday walkers. He made some great friends at the mall, chit chatting over McDonald’s coffee in the food court.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Wayne and his wife Dora Wilbanks, James and his wife Janie Wilbanks, Randall (Ramp) Wilbanks, and Charles’ son: Charles Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; his children: Lisa Wilbanks of Front Royal, VA, Calvin Wilbanks of Nokesville, VA; and by his grandchildren: JC Wilbanks and Gwen Wilbanks of Nokesville, VA (who loving referred to him as Maa); his siblings: Juanita Beard of Byhalia, MS, his brother, Neal and his wife Beth Wilbanks of Ripley, MS, his sister, Hilda and her husband Edwin Shelton of Ripley, MS, and Ramp’s wife Jean Wilbanks of Ripley, MS along with countless of nieces, nephews and extended family, whom he loved dearly.

According to his grandchildren, Maa was known for his infectious smile, his stories, always saying dagnabbit and protectiveness of his family.

Charles loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family (whether blood, marriage or forged by friendship). He was a proud American who was extremely proud to have served his country. He will be greatly missed by those he loved and those who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you consider a donation to the American Heart Association.

Family will receive friends on Thursday July 18, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Baker-Post Funeral Home and Cremation Center 10001 Nokesville Rd. Manassas, VA. Service will take place on Friday July 19, 2019 at Baker-Post Funeral Home with Pastor Ralph Benson officiating.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
