Derrick Lee  Mingo
Derrick Mingo, a computer technician, and resident of West Virginia, died peacefully on March 23, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 49.

Derrick is survived by his parents; mother, Debra James, father, Jocy Mingo and stepfather, Percy James; brother, Eric McDowell, sister, Kim; son, Marcel Mingo and daughter, Hailey Mingo; grandmother, Shirley Shields, grandfather, William Shields, and grandfather, James McDowell. He is predeceased by his brother, Anthony “Monk” Mingo; grandfather, Sonny Mingo and grandmother, Carolyn Williams Mingo.

Derrick was born January 8, 1974, in Newark NJ. He graduated from Weequahic High School in 1992 and later obtained his certification in Computer Engineering and spent his career in the IT field. On June 4, 1999, he married Angela Mingo. On November 23, 1996 and December 11, 2000 he had two beautiful children, son Marcel and daughter Hailey, who were the most important part of his life.

Derrick was a devoted father. He had a love for music and cooking. He was known for lighting up a room with his bright smile, captivating personality, and amazing sense of humor. Derrick was always lifting others up to bring out the best in them. He was such an amazing best friend to so many. Derrick left a lasting impression on so many people on his journey here. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, Virginia. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will immediately follow at Tippet’s Hill Cemetery in Sterling Virginia.
