Obituary for Dr. Edward Paul Byrne

Dr. Edward Paul Byrne
Dr. Edward Paul Byrne, known to his family and friends as “Pud”, was called to be with our Lord Jesus March 13,2018. He died at Fairfax hospital with family present.

Paul was born at home on May 10,1942 in Baltimore, Maryland, the sixth child of the late Michael and Nellie Byrne.

“Pud” attended grade school at St Joseph’s Monastery in Baltimore. He often proclaimed that the nuns who taught him there provided the most important years of his education. In 1969 he earned his Doctorate in Dentistry from the University of Maryland. Dr. Byrne practiced dentistry in the Yorkshire area of Manassas Virginia for over 30 years with a special interest in TMJ related issues. He truly loved his occupation, so much so, that after his initial retirement he moved “across the pond” to his beloved Ireland for a few more years, to fix more teeth!

This cherished father of four girls loved all things Irish and was happiest when surrounded by family, friends and lively conversation, to include perhaps a passionate debate, with full expression! He liked to sing, drink whiskey and write poetry too; he loved travel and enjoyed many “great adventures” with Eddie Moylan (his lifetime friend since the second grade).

Always ready with a smile, and eyes twinkling, he was a great listener and a friend to many. Paul was a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, George Brent Council # 5332, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Sons of the American Legion Post 10. He also traveled to the Dominican Republic with Medical Missionaries and provided dental care to the poor on the rural border of Haiti.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, James, Thomas and Michael Byrne; and a sister Theresa Scott. Survivors include his four daughters, Peggy Outland (Earl); Sandra Alt (Darryl); Susan Hunt (Jim); and Patty Juul (Lars); 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Richard Byrne; one sister, Rose Marie Ireland; as well as his girlfriend of 15 years, Collette Williams.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas.

Interment will follow in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to Medical Missionaries, Inc., 9590 Surveyor Court, Manassas, VA 20110. Please sign the guestbook at www.bakerpostfh.com.
