Obituary for Gloria Elaine Pitt

Gloria Elaine Pitt
Gloria Elaine Pitt, 83, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Warm Hearth Village in
Blacksburg, VA, on June 25, 2020, surrounded by her four daughters.

Elaine (the name she preferred) was born to William Wortham Pitt, Jr. and Mary Payne Libeau on January 30, 1937 at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC. She grew up in Arlington, VA where she attended Washington & Lee High School. Upon graduation, she attended Florida Christian College, completing her college degree at George Mason University later in life. Before moving to Blacksburg four years ago, she lived in Manassas, VA for 48 years. She was an only child and was predeceased by her parents.

In her early 20s, Elaine was employed by the Pentagon as a secretary and was later selected to work as a programmer for the Army Map Service. Desiring to spend more time with her family, she decided to take a break in her career to care for her young children. While at home she also worked as the bookkeeper for McLean Lawn Service, VSF and MEC, her husband’s businesses. She always considered her most important job to be that of raising her four daughters. Once they were older she re-entered the workforce as an accountant for a law office. She was later employed as a systems analyst for the government and finally, by the Census Bureau.

Elaine’s passions were travelling, dogs, listening to music, dancing, watching movies, learning about new things, going to the beach and spending time with her family. She often said that she just couldn’t get over the invention of the television and enjoyed the experience of supporting and being an extra in a local movie production. Her infectious laugh, quick wit and fun-loving spirit will be greatly missed. Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, passing on her love of the scriptures to her children.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses - Mary Bea Bouchet (Frédéric) of Centreville, VA, Lisa Gibson (Don) of Catlett, VA, Yvonne Empson (Digby) of Blacksburg, VA and Ruth Allen (Irby) of Manassas, VA - twelve grandchildren - Emilie Tatschl (Wolfgang), Julia Beaver (Aaron), Olivia Moore (Blake), Philip Gibson, Yvonne Gibson, Lucie Bouchet, Mary Gibson, Anthea Empson, Amelia Empson, Donovan Allen, Corey Allen, Cameron Allen - and two great-grandchildren - Mathias & Daphné Tatschl.

Funeral services will be held on July 8, 2020 at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Rd., Manassas. Unfortunately, due to COVID capacity restrictions, the service itself will be limited to family members in the number of people who may attend. However, guests and friends of the family are welcome to the viewing from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in the form of a check be given to the “Department of Veteran Affairs,” memo line: LED Therapy Research. All checks may then be mailed to:
