Guenther Joseph  Friedl
Guenther Joseph Friedl passed away May 10, 2021 in Gainesville, VA at age 86, after a long journey in hospice care due to a chronic medical condition. Guenther was a kind, loving partner to his wife Karin, as well as an amazing father to their daughter Christina and son Michael. He was born in Munich, Germany and immigrated to the US when he was 22 years old. He first lived in Florida before settling into the New England region where he worked and raised his family.

Guenther loved to share his life story and of the people who assisted him on his path toward becoming a U.S. citizen. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957. He proudly served active duty in the Signal Corps until 1960, then in the reserves until 1962. Guenther worked for many years as a buyer for sporting goods companies before opening his own athletic retail business in update NY.

Guenther lived his life with an open curiosity of people and knowledge. He had a great appreciation of nature and was most happy being outdoors. He loved spending time with family and friends, reading, biking, riding his motorcycle, skiing, hiking, traveling, and photography.

He is survived by his wife Karin, daughter Christina Holley, son Mike Friedl, daughter-in-law Dana Friedl, son-in-law Rob Holley, grandchildren Jack and Max McAdams, Julia, Loudon, and Marissa Friedl.

A private family service and burial will take place at Cool Spring Cemetery, Berryville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Capitol Caring (Capitolcaring.org) and/or the Sierra Club (sierraclub.org)
