Obituary for Joe D. Williams

Joe D. Williams
Joe Williams , aged 87 years, of Pensacola, FL went on home with God on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, Virginia surrounded by family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Sorie Williams and Bernice McCormick Williams; by Carol Judith Williams, his wife of forty eight years; his brothers Carthell, Johnny Merle, Rex and Ted; and his grandson Jared.

Joe is survived by his sister, Lavoughan Wells (Jim), his daughters, Jo Dee Gierber (Alex) and Jamie Barton (Alan) and stepson, Monte Carlos (Cheryl), his grandchildren Jamie, Mandy, Megan (Josh), Bryan (Alison), Maddie, and Janie, and his great grandchildren Carter, Adelaide, Charlotte, Joie and Wesley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Pensacola, Chipley and around the country.

He was born and raised in Chipley, FL and moved to Pensacola where he worked for Gulf Power. Joe served in the United States Army in Korea and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After completing his military service, he returned to Pensacola and resumed working for Gulf Power where he served many years as a high power lineman. Dad often said he enjoyed his work every day and he especially enjoyed the people he worked with, those he met and making a contribution to his community. Being an avid birder, Dad proposed that Gulf Power add nesting platforms and his project to install the first ones on each side of Gulf Beach Highway approaching Perdido Key still have nesting osprey most seasons. Dad was an avid bee keeper, gardener, and helped with Audubon hummingbird banding projects for many years. He and Mom also enjoyed sailing and many friends over the years with Pensacola Yacht Club. He enjoyed many road trips and adventures with family all across the country, especially if there was a lighthouse to see.

Dad was one of the good ones who never met a stranger, would help anytime he could, and mostly loved God, his family and his friends. He will be so missed. Our family is grateful for the kind thoughts, visits, calls and prayers for Dad in recent days.

The family will hold a private service in Florida.

His Master replied, Well done good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:21
