Obituary for John William Jones
John W. Jones, 79, of Gainesville, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at Novant Health-Prince William Medical Center in Manassas.
John was born May 5, 1939 in Woodbridge, Virginia. He was the son of the late William Conrad and Sarah Katherine Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Jones, Dickie Jones, his sisters Betty Bedwell, Barbara Jones, Bertie Shifflett, and a son, Greg Jones.
He was a member of the brotherhood of the Masons, where he exemplified their motto of selfless giving; from doing for others without asking, or expecting, anything in return.
John is survived by a son, Billy Jones and wife Debbie; daughters, Sandy Flippo and husband Dwayne, Gwen Smith and husband Mike and Tammy Hilliard and husband Mark. He is also survived by his sister, Liz Bedwell. He was the proudest grandfather to Shannon, Brian, Ashley, Stacey, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Dillon, Brittany, Amber and Alexis. Honored to call him their great-grandfather were Kayde, Abby, Natalie, Colton, Thomas, Hunter, Clara, Oriah, Levi and Lydia as well as 3 more on the way. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA 20109.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215 in memory of John W. Jones.
