Obituary for John Joseph Kraft

John Joseph Kraft
John Joseph Kraft, 61, of Gainesville, went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with his beloved parents, Jack and Jean, and sister Donna, on February 20, 2018. After an incredible fight, he passed away unexpectedly in the Inova Fairfax Hospital ICU, surrounded by a roomful of family and friends who loved him dearly.

John was born March 26, 1956 in Washington, D.C. One of six children, he graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School in 1975 lettering in both baseball and football. He went on to become a Master Electrician. John was married to the love of his life, Sandy, on July 9, 1988, sharing more than 30 years of love, creating many happy memories along the way. As President and owner of Electrical Concepts, Inc. for 29 years, John always said how much he enjoyed bringing light into people’s lives.

John loved spending time with his family and nothing made him happier than playing ball with his boys. He never missed a chance to root on his teams with Johnny or help Steven reach his dreams in baseball in the batting cage he built out back. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and trusted friend.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy (Landfried) Kraft of Gainesville, VA; Children, Johnny and Steven of Gainesville, VA; Siblings, Sharon (Fred) McGuinn of Louisburg, NC; Debbie (Ted) Good of Merry Hill, NC; Tom (Jan) Kraft of Pittsboro, NC; and Karen (John) Belser of Evans, GA; and a large extended family.

John’s youngest son, Steven, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 12 months old. It was always his hope that a cure would be found during Steven’s lifetime. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 6:00-8:30 PM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Linton Hall Road in Gainesville, VA. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM also at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Interment will be private and at a later date.
