Obituary for John William Shields

John William Shields, 57, of Bristow, passed away July 12, 2008 at the Prince William Hospital.

Born November 17, 1950 in Bloomington, Indiana, he was the son of Phillip and Dorothy Stanton Shields. On May 28, 1976 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he married the former Mary Kauten, who survives. John was a former member of the Manassas Church of the Brethren, the Treasurer of Manassas City Public Schools, a volunteer for the Manassas City Education Foundation and the FBLA. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #10 in Manassas.

Besides his loving wife of 32 years, he is survived by one son, John A. Shields of St. Paul, MN; three daughters, Melissa Harvey of Manassas; Kimberly Shields of Bristow; Amber Shields of Las Vegas; one brother, David Shields and his wife Anna of Indiana; two sisters, Edna Mae Holderman and Linda Sue Eakright, both of Indiana; and four grandchildren, Johnathan Shields, Devlin Harvey, Conor Harvey, and Alessandra Serafini.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. at the Manassas Church of the Brethren, 10047 Nokesville Road, Manassas. A celebration of John’s life will begin at 7 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Carter officiating.

Interment will take place on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
