The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Joseph Dwyer can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Okinawa

I wanted to share a short story about your Dad with you...as a Marine it will be poignant.  We were in Okinawa as a deployed Infantry Battalion and your Dad had an O Call at his hootch.  There might have been alcohol involved on the evening.  Joe got up to make a speech and said, in so many words; "I have never commanded a unit that I did not lead into combat, so here's to our future on this deployment"...well, he lied, no combat under his leadership, but we certainly were well led by a leader that any of us would have followed to the sound of the cannon.  He was a superb commander, a wonderful mentor and friend and I know that so many of us will miss him.  Our lives are all so much better for having known him and followed in his footsteps.  Please pass along our love, prayers and condolences to Carol and the family.  Semper Fi, Colonel Dick Hobbs, USMC (Ret) and Dr. Yolanda Hobbs, PhD
