Obituary for Joseph Raymond Fletcher

Joseph Raymond Fletcher, 82, of Manassas Park, passed away Saturday, October 27th, 2007 at the Prince William Hospital, from complications of COPD.

Born December 25, 1924 in Raccoon Ford, Virginia, he was the son of John and Rosa Webb Fletcher. On July 2, 1954 in Washington, DC, he married the former M. Vivian Ouellette, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Fletcher served in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in Paris. He worked as an electrician for the Washington Gas Company for over 35 years, before retiring in 1986. Joseph was a jack of all trades, and a master of many, spending his retirement wood working, repairing small engines and feeding the squirrels. He had strong convictions on some issues; he was a wise man and a wiseacre. You won’t find him in the history books, but he will always be famous to his family. Words cannot express how much he is loved and will be missed.

Besides his wife, Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by one sister, Agnes Cortez, and one brother, Thomas W. Fletcher. Survivors include one sister, Margaret Schiano, three daughters, Ilene Bennett and her husband Blane of Cedar Grove, NC; Jo Mills and her husband Keith of Dickerson, MD; Lucielle Schneidner and her husband G. Patrick of Manassas Park; one son, Joseph R. Fletcher, Jr., and his wife Diana of Strasburg; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

At Mr. Fletcher’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private and take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Baker Funeral Home, Manassas, VA.
