Joyce Katherine  Baker
Joyce Katherine Baker, 84, of Gainesville, VA, formerly of Norton, VA, passed away August 27, 2014 at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

Born January 6, 1930 in Norton, VA, she was the daughter of Leonard and Addie Marcum Starnes.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Imogene Ray and Janie Dean; one brother, Joseph Starnes; and adopted family, Michael Holler. Survivors include her loving daughter, Glenna Baker of Gainesville; her adopted daughter, Patricia Wilder of Gainesville; adopted family Barbara Bingham and Michael Dymmel of Springfield, Va; and Marianne Miller Williams of Raliegh, NC; one sister, Bobbie Louise Elam and her husband William of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Ermit Starnes and his wife Linda of Redmond, WA; and her sister-in-law, Edith Vanover of Clintwood, VA. Her many loving nieces and nephews include: Patsy Prevatt and her husband Sonnie; Greg Starnes and his wife Maureen; Kathy Lotz and her husband Robert; Mark Starnes and his wife Pamela; Joe Elam; Scott Elam and his wife Anita; Henry Vanover and his wife Suzzie; and Donald Przybysz. She also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews.

Joyce Baker was a loving and dear friend to many from Clintwood, and from Burke and Gainesville, VA. Her smile, generosity and her great cooking will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to The Clintwood United Methodist Church (426 Main Street, Clintwood, VA 24228) or to the Burke United Methodist Church (6200 Burke Centre Parkway, Burke, VA 22015) or to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org)
