Obituary for Kathleen Ives Smith

Kathleen Ives Smith
Kathleen Ives Smith of Manlius, New York, passed away Monday October 31st, 2022 at age 77 in the home of her daughter Merideth Weisberg in Gainesville, Virginia. Having far surpassed her prognosis with Glioblastoma, she lived with grace and dignity beyond measure. She was surrounded by family and friends in her last years, always smiling until the end of her journey.

Kathleen was born on January 14, 1945 to Mary and Larry Ives. She was the oldest of three children. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Ives, and by her two daughters, Christie and Merideth, son in-law Patrick Boggs, and Doug Weisberg, four grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. Her younger sister, Christine, also passed away shortly after her death. She worked as a hairstylist for nearly 30 years and followed in her mom’s footsteps by working at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in many different capacities.

Kathleen was loved by all and truly never met a stranger. She was full of compassion and love, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her friends and family. She had such a special bond with her church family at St Ann’s as well as her many hair clients. Her infectious smile spread joy everywhere she went. Her grandchildren will always remember her enthusiasm, willingness to always engage, and willingness to be silly with them, even if it meant making fun of herself. Kathleen was the absolute best mother, daughter, sister and friend to all. She will be missed tremendously by everyone she touched during her life.

A memorial service will be held on April 28th, 2023 at St. Ann’s in Manlius, NY.
