Obituary for Kimberley Shellman Baranyk

Kimberley Shellman Baranyk
Kimberley Shellman Baranyk, 67, of Manassas, passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, with her loving sons, Curtis, and Lucas, at her bedside.

Born in New London, Connecticut, on July 25, 1956, to Curtis Shellman Jr. and Patricia Shellman, Kimberley is survived by her brother, Patrick; her sister, Debra; her sons, Curtis, and Lucas; her granddaughters, Maggie and Leigh; and several nieces and nephews.

Kimberley, a graduate of Catholic University of America, started a new career as a hairstylist in 2000. Her passion for her work led her to open a successful salon in Virginia Beach in the mid-2000s and she later returned home to be closer to her sons. Most recently, she worked as a stylist at Studio B Salon and Beauty Bar in Haymarket, Virginia, where her colleagues became like family to her. Kimberley was a mentor to many new stylists and cherished the friendships she made in the industry through the years.

Kimberley’s journey through life was marked by unwavering support for her family. Affectionately known as “Grandma Ophie” by her granddaughters, Kimberley found joy in spending time with her sons and overindulging her granddaughters at every opportunity. She also enjoyed gardening (and fixing her sons’ gardening/landscaping mishaps). Kimberley loved her pets and enjoyed the comfort of her boxer, Ophelia, and cat, Norman.

Kimberley fought a long battle over several years with different types of cancer. Despite enduring ongoing treatment, unfavorable diagnoses, and many surgeries, Kimberley continued to work, spend time with family, and help her sons through their own obstacles in life.

Her passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of many.

The family requests a donation to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, in Kimberley’s memory. https://donate.cancer.org/?campaign=search&gad=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhIHw9aW7gQMVV8DICh16iQD_EAAYASAAEgI0xPD_BwE
