Obituary for Leon Russell Pleasants

Leon Russell  Pleasants
Leon Russell Pleasants, Jr., 89, formerly of Gainesville, passed away December 17, 2022, at the White Springs Senior Living, Warrenton, VA.

Born May 12, 1933, in Lynchburg, VA, he was the son of the late Leon R. Pleasants and Hazel C. Staples Pleasants. He married the former Sally Ann Russum, in 1955 in Luray Virginia, who proceeded him in death on December 4, 2018.

Leon graduated in 1951 from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg where he excelled as a student athlete. He attended Virginia Tech University where he met his future wife Sally, and was a member of the Corp of Cadets, graduating in 1955. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Mr. Pleasants moved to Tampa, Florida and then relocated to the Northern Virginia area, residing in both Arlington and McLean, and worked at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board as a mortgage analyst from 1966 until his retirement in 1994. Following his retirement, Leon and his wife Sally relocated to Heritage Hunt in Gainesville where he resided for 15 years.
Mr. Pleasants loved his three sons and was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching Virginia Tech football, the former Washington Redskins, the Washington Nationals, and the Baltimore Orioles baseball teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife of 63 years Sally Pleasants. Survivors include his three sons, Stuart Pleasants, and his wife Susan; David Pleasants and his wife Alice; Gregory Pleasants and his wife Laura; six grandchildren, Katherine (Kate), Matthew, Jack, Susanna, Adam, and Ryan; and many friends and extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dallas Slemp officiating.

Entombment will immediately follow in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.
