Obituary for Leonard William Pighini, Jr.

Leonard William Pighini, Jr.
On Monday, January 9, 2023, Leonard William Pighini Jr. peacefully passed away at the age of 83 at UVA Prince William Medical Center in Manassas Virginia. He was surrounded by his children and family. Len was born on March 16,1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Leonard William Pighini and Elizabeth Cecelia Hann.

Len had such an exuberance for life, family, and work. His creative and adventurous nature led him on many journeys throughout his life. Serving in the Navy, becoming a Philadelphia Police Officer and ultimately a Professional Artist for the majority of his life.

His passion for his art and determination to follow his dreams are reflected in his unique bas relief paintings which were hand carved on wood. His travels influenced his work as he continued to grow and explore other artistic fields such as canvas paintings, acting, and writing.

Most of all he appreciated his family. Len, also known as “pop pop” loved his grandchildren and enjoyed his time with them immensely. Len loved taking them out for breakfasts at iHop and the diner, watching them play at the pool, trips to the beach and Mt.Gretna as well as a fun drive to Tennessee to watch the total solar eclipse. There are so many more fun stories and positive memories for them to remember.

Our Dad overcame many serious health obstacles, his spirit and will to live and spend time with his family allowed us the gift of time with him. He was grateful for the help and support he got along the way.

Len is survived by his sister Elizabeth Ryan, brothers John Pighini and wife Sue and Michael Pighini and his wife Karen. His children Debbie Tarsitano, Lenny Pighini and wife Elaine, daughter Michelle Lederman and her husband Perry, and his grandchildren Christopher Tarsitano, Jacqie Tarsitano, Jacob Pighini, Lizzy Pighini, Jack Lederman, Luke Lederman and Lily Lederman. Len also has numerous amazing nieces, nephews and cousins who meant the world to him.

A celebration of his life will be planned for early summer to allow the opportunity for relatives who live far away to gather together.
