Obituary for Margaret Barber Stevens

Margaret Barber Stevens
Margaret Barber Stevens, age 76, of Reston, Virginia passed away peacefully Monday, December 2, 2019 in Reston, VA.

Margaret was born on July 17, 1943 in Danville, Virginia, the youngest daughter of the late William and Olive (Dennis) Barber. She was a CEO and small business owner, as well as mother, animal activist and overall amazing woman. She attended college at Ben Franklin University for accounting and later again for business management at Shenandoah University. After graduating, she continued to run her technology training and infrastructure business, before joining IRI where she retired in 2011. Her retirement was almost another career as she stood up 2 indoor markets to procure and sell various items in order to donate the proceeds to several animal shelters in Virginia, West Virginia and Georgia.

Margaret had a deep love for family and animals which carried her throughout life. She was one of four children and a twin to her brother (Buddy) who she always had a special bond with and cared for unconditionally until his death in 2010. Her oldest sister Elizabeth (Betty) was also an entrepreneur and great advisor, owning businesses in Arlington, VA until her passing in 2009. Margaret especially loved helping animals and met so many new friends through charity events, campaigns and personal fundraising she hosted for shelter dogs and cats. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow into adults, witnessing graduations and weddings, but most of all she enjoyed time with her family, especially holidays and Sunday dinners at her daughter’s home.

Margaret leaves behind her husband and best friend Harry, her daughter, Samantha Marshall and husband Peter of Potomac Falls, VA; her sister Barbara Bullock and niece Karen O’Neal of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren, Victoria Majerle and husband Derek of Reston, VA and Lauren Marshall of Potomac Falls, VA.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00PM on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Baker-Post Funeral Home, 10001 Nokesville Rd, Manassas, VA followed by a gathering at the Stevens home in Reston.
