Obituary for Mary Virginia "Ginger" Taylor

Mary Virginia "Ginger" Taylor
Mary Virginia Taylor, 84, of Herndon, Virginia, passed away peacefully after a long illness. “Ginger” was born on May 19, 1936, in Nokesville, Virginia, to Eleanor Thomasson. Ginger grew up in Nokesville and Haymarket, Virginia. She graduated from Brentsville District HS in 1954, where she was quite active in music and sports. In the band she played cornet and was a majorette. She also enjoyed success on the basketball and softball teams. After graduating high school, she married Charles Arthur Taylor and they moved to Falls Church where they began a family with the birth of their eldest child and son, Bruce Taylor. Within the next eight years they welcomed three more children - their only daughter, Tammy, and two more sons - Keith and Craig.

Throughout her life, Ginger made countless friends in all of her jobs at the Pimmit Hills Pharmacy, Lakeside Pharmacy and at Chantilly High School. In 1968, Ginger and Charles bought land in Herndon where they built the home that they lived in for the rest of their lives. They raised their children in that house, and they used their acres of land to raise farm animals, grow a variety of vegetables in their garden, relax with family and friends in their pool, and nurture a host of beautiful plants, trees, and flowers.

Ginger was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. On June 26, 2013, Ginger and Charles celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. During their many years together, Ginger was a kind, loving, and romantic soul-mate to Charles. As a mother, Ginger supported her children in their interests and activities in sports and music. As "Nana,” Ginger was a doting and loving grandmother to her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, the family dogs, horses, gardening, and researching her family’s genealogy.

She lived a very full life filled with a legacy of fun, laughter, generosity and love. She enjoyed pranking people and always making people feel loved and special. Just about everyone who knew and loved her has their own story to tell about her pranks.

Ginger is survived by her four children and their families: Bruce Taylor (Joanne), Tammy Vaughn (Keith), Keith Taylor (Michelle), and Craig Taylor (Jeanette). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Stephen Vaughn (Tricia), Devin Vaughn (Jessica), Kelsey Dandridge (Mike), Ethan Taylor, Clara Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Mason Taylor, and Leo Taylor. She is survived by four great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Jackson, Grace, and Nathan. In her later and last years, Ginger was cared for by her devoted sister-in-law, Dianne Taylor.

Ginger was a loving mother, nana, sister, and friend to so many lucky people. We will all miss her greatly.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association:
