Obituary for Pastor Joel Lee Slemp

Pastor Joel Lee  Slemp
Pastor Joel L. Slemp went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 26, 2021, surrounded by his blessed family at his home.

He was born on May 8, 1934, to Malloy Slemp and Hettie Dotson Slemp in Coeburn, Virginia. He moved to Northern Virginia in 1949, working as a land surveyor. On August 4, 1956, he married the love of his life Donna Atkins. Joel pastored Colchester Free Will Baptist Church for 48 years.

Besides his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his stepfather, Teston Hamilton; sisters Anna Helen Mullins and Polly Lane.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna; children Dallas (Vivian); Delores; Sandra Mullins (Pernell); and Jamie (Lisa); 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Reba Strouth; Jean Strouth; Jerry Slemp; Patty Garrison (David); Jedy McConnell; Wayne Hamilton (Terry); and numerous family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Colchester Free Will Baptist Church, 10405 Schaeffer Lane, Nokesville, VA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Rev. Dallas Slemp officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.
Memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to the Colchester Free Will Baptist Church, or the charity or church mission of your choice.
Pastor Slemp’s family will serve as Pallbearers; Andrew Slemp, Brandon Mullins, Ethan Slemp, Aaron Mullins, Alex McDavid, and Howie McDavid. Close Friends serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Ebb Pucket and Ken Strouth.
