Robert Thomas  Cator
Robert Thomas Cator was born on April 1, 1946 and passed away peacefully on May 28, 2016 in Alexandria, Virginia; where he lived with his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He spent his seventy years among family and friends all of whom will miss him dearly. Born to William and Helen Cator “Tommy”, as he was known to his closest relatives, grew up in Washington D.C. As a young man he was a member of the ROTC and worked as a clerk at a local grocery store. After graduating from Anacostia High School he attended Prince George’s Community College for a time before beginning a career as a Printer. He married Mary Katherine Allen on September 25, 1971 and together they had a son and two daughters. He was a loving and attentive father to his children; childhood memories include numerous trips to the swimming pool and park. He was a friend and confidant to many including his three sisters his children and grandchildren. In recent years he was enjoying his retirement, spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as with friends both in Alexandria and in Manassas. His seventieth birthday was celebrated with a family party, which many including all of his sisters were able to attend. He is survived by three sisters: Debbie and Rocky Allen of Mount Laurel, NJ; Darlene and Ed Russian of Warrenton, VA; Brenda Rossi of Landsdowne, VA. He is survived by his three children: Jeff and Liz Cator of Alexandria, VA, Tracy Cator-Lee of Manassas, VA; Amy and Jeremy Finnall of Front Royal, VA. He is survived by six grandchildren: Haley, Isaac, Alex, Nick, Emily, and Hannah. Tommy was an organ donor and even at his death he gave the great gift of life with a tissue donation for recipients he never met. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11:30a.m. on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at the Baker-Post Funeral home, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas VA 20110. A gathering to celebrate his life will follow at one of his favorite restaurants, Okra’s Cajun Creole.
