When I think of Brother Roger, I think of friends. Jesus said in John 15 "Greater love has no man than this that a man shall lay down one's life for his friends. You are my friends." Jesus laid down His life for His friends. He defines His church in so many different ways or names, but in John 15 He called His disciples friends.
Roger and a group of men would meet at Henry Stanley's house in Manassas Park on Tuesday nights for a Bible Class, or better termed a time of fellowship with the Lord Jesus and with friends. This is what this group really was like. They were friends, pursuing the greatest friend of all. I was fortunate to be part of this great meeting and to know these wonderful men, who gathered to know the Lord Jesus, and have fellowship with one another.
These brothers embraced each other as the body of the Lord Jesus, coming to know their oneness with the Lord, and to see each other in this light, as Jesus prayed in John 17 "That they may be one as we are one, I in them, you in me, that they may be made perfect in one." It was this knowing they each were pursuing, and desiring to see each other in. This was one of the greatest times of fellowship of the Lord's Body I have known, to sit with these precious men and become friends and brothers in Christ. Here in Him we became one, and saw ourselves not by the identity of our flesh, but through the work of the Lord Jesus Himself.
I love this dear Brother, and the fellowship of Christ we shared. He was truly a wonderfuld, kind brother in the Lord and will be missed. I know while he has departed from the earth, he dwells in Christ. He had found the secret place of God where Christ is the life! This life Roger had before he departed the earth, and continues to have as he moved from this earthen tent. Glory to God.
