Obituary for Ronald Locke

Ronald Locke was born on January 4, 1927, in Berryville, VA. He passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in his home in Manassas, VA on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

He was a graduate of Berryville High School. After high school he joined the Army and is a Veteran of World War 2.

Upon discharge, he returned home to Berryville and soon after attended Strayer College in Washington, D.C. on the GI Bill. He was a member of Phi Theta Pi International Commerce Fraternity. He graduated in 1951 with a Master of Commercial Science Degree.

He was married to Betty Sue Enders from Berryville on August 27, 1950. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
They moved to Washington, D.C. where he started his accounting career with Vinton Lee & Company of Washington, D.C. During the 15 years he worked there, he became a Certified Public Account and later became a Partner with the company.

Due to his knowledge, superior work habits and professionalism he demonstrated while serving First Virginia Bank as a client of Vinton Lee, he was hired for the position of Treasurer of the First Virginia Corporation. He moved the family to Falls Church, VA., to be near the Corporate Office. First Virginia wrote that he had one of the finest and most enviable reputations for his abilities of anyone in the financial field. In addition to being a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountant, he has served on the Accounting Committee of the Association of Bank Holding Companies. At the time of his retirement in 1992, after 26 years of service, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation.
He enjoyed spending time with Betty on his sailboat, reading, gardening, traveling, and golfing.

He also treasured the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was a member of Graham Road United Methodist Church and served on their financial committee.

Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; his parents, Charles E. Locke and Edith M. Locke, and his sister Rosa Walker. He was the loving father of Wayne Locke, Deborah Jenkins, and Cheryl (John) Rosko. He is also survived by five precious grandchildren, Michael Jenkins (Liz), Angela Harper (Jeff), Andrew Locke, Joey Rosko, and Katie Farrar (Andrew), along with ten great grandchildren, Davis and Lillian Jenkins; Madelyn, Ethan, and Nora Harper; Aaron, Alexis, and Kaelyn Locke; Annabeth and Lucy Farrar.

The funeral will be held at St. Thomas United Methodist Church, 8899 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Graveside interment services will be held at Columbia Garden Cemetery in Arlington, VA. at 12:00 p.m.
