Obituary for Samuel Figueroa-Ortiz

Samuel Figueroa-Ortiz
Samuel Figueroa Ortiz, 57, from Bristow, VA, went home to his heavenly Father on May 1st, 2018 in the Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, VA.

He was born in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Nicasio Figueroa and the late Maria C. Ortiz. He married his Wife, Neysa Diaz Torres, on June 28th, 1980, in Loíza, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the Army with his wife on January 31st, 1985 and served his country proudly until being honorably released from duty in 1991 at the rank of Sergeant.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a kind and generous heart and was always willing to help others in need. He especially loved playing games with his family and friends. His mission in life was to bring others joy and laughter. He had a passion for woodworking, auto mechanics, and refinishing beautiful pieces of furniture. He had a knack for seeing the beauty in everything and making items others considered broken, new again. Ultimately, the thing he valued most was his relationship with the Lord and being a husband, father, and grandfather. He valued the Lord and his family above all. He cherished every friendship that he had and accepted his friends and his children’s friends as a part of his family. He leaves behind a lasting legacy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Neysa Diaz Torres, his children Neysa (Alex) Brewer, Awilda (Elliot) Motl, Keila (Marcus) Figueroa-Jones, his grandchildren Nathanael Greaves, Elijah Greaves, and Naomi Greaves, his step-mother Maria Teresa Figueroa, his siblings Gladys Figueroa Ortiz, Rosa Figueroa Ortiz, Maria Teresa Vega, Sonia Rivera, and Domingo Alberto Rivera, and by many other family members and friends who he loved deeply.

He is preceded by his father Nicasio Figueroa, his mother Maria C. Ortiz, and his siblings Edwin Figueroa Ortiz, and Awilda Figueroa Ortiz.

A Special Thanks to the Prince William Fire and Rescue first responders, and to the caring ER staff at Novant Health-Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, Virginia.
