With a heavy heart and deep humility towards VaaheGuru, we announce the passing of Surrindar Singh Hansra on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the age of 87.

Surrindar Singh Hansra was a very religious person and dedicated to Gurbani. He was an exemplary sevak who was a pillar of Sikhism for the community. He embraced the Sikh principles of meditation on God’s name, hard work, and community service. He was a founding member and sevadaar to several DC-area Gurdwaras to include Guru Nanak Foundation of America (GNFA), Sikh Foundation of Virginia (SFV), Singh Sabha Gurdwara (SSG), and most recently Sikh Center of Virginia (SCV).

Surrindar Singh was born in the village of Kamalpura in Punjab, India. He came to the United States in 1957 as a student. He obtained his BS and MS degrees from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. In 1968, he married Harinder Kaur. The family moved to Connecticut in 1969, to Maryland in 1975, and to Virginia in 1981. He worked for the U.S. Federal Government for 32 years and retired in 2006. Outside of his professional career and community service, Surrindar Singh enjoyed being outdoors and golf.

Surrindar Singh Hansra was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Harinder Kaur, son Chet, and daughter Harpreet.
