Obituary for Thomas Gaul

Thomas Gaul, 71, of Gainesville, VA, passed away September 22, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Gaul was born in Woodbridge, NJ in 1942. In 1966, he married the former Faith Ellis, whom he lovingly adored every day of his life. The Gauls raised their family in South Plainfield, NJ, where they were active members of the community for 35 years before moving to Silver Spring, MD in 2001. In 2007, Mr. Gaul moved to Gainesville, VA. He received his BA in pre-law from LaSalle College, and his MBA in marketing from Seton Hall University. As a global corporate executive for over 25 years, he traveled to all 50 states and extensively throughout the world, and enjoyed sharing his experiences with others. After retirement, the Gauls owned and operated the Services Plus store in South Plainfield, NJ for five years. Mr. Gaul was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in their elite Special Forces unit otherwise known as the Green Berets during the Vietnam War. He was also an active member of the Gainesville United Methodist Church. In his free time, Mr. Gaul enjoyed playing his electric guitar. In 2006, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years. He is survived by two devoted daughters, Renee Gaul of Cliffwood, NJ and Dana Rainer and her husband Dan of Bristow, VA; two adored grandchildren, Jason and Samantha Rainer of Bristow, VA; and a host of dear friends. A celebration of life with military honors will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Gainesville United Methodist Church, 13710 Milestone Court, Gainesville, VA, with The Rev. John Patterson officiating. Inurnment will be private and take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park Street, SE #100, Vienna VA 22180.
