Thomas Martin Storey, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021, and is now in Heaven with our Lord. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Deborah Forsyth Storey, and two grown children, Elizabeth D. Storey of Houston, Texas, and Robert A. Storey, of New York, New York. In recent years, he and his wife split their time between their home in Manassas and a second home in The Villages, Florida.
Tom was born Aug 27, 1948, in the District of Columbia, the third son of Arhur and Robin Boyle Storey. He earned a B.S. in Physics from Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (1970). He began his career as an Electrical & Computer Engineer at IBM in Binghamton, New York, eventually relocating to IBM’s Federal System Division in Manassas, Virginia. While at FSD, he was selected to participated in the IBM Resident Study Program. The Pro-gram provided support for him to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pitts-burgh, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1992). While studying in Pittsburgh, Tom met his future wife Deb-by, whom he married on June 15,1991, at Pittsburgh’s St. Andrews Episcopal Church. He retired from BAE Systems in Manassas, after working in the electronics industry from 1970-2011. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at George Mason University (1999-2016), in Fairfax, Virginia. Throughout his career, Tom was involved with the industry group, the International Test Conference (ITC). Among the highlights of this long association with the ITC was a 1990 “Best Paper Award” for CMOS Bridge Fault Detection, which he coauthored with his CMU professor, Dr. Wojciech Maly.
Tom will be remembered as a loving husband and father, and a kind and generous man. He was a 30-year member of Manassas Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Sudley Swim Club in Manassas, where he volunteered as a stroke and turn judge at swim meets. He was active in the community, volunteering in various roles, such as youth soccer coach and teaching parenting classes with his wife Debby at the local Extension Agency. After his retirement, Tom participated in several medical research studies, and recently volunteered with Prince William Medical Reserve Corps to assist local governments in fighting the Covid pandemic.
He died after a brief illness and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by two brothers, Arthur B. Storey (Joan) of Albany, New York, and Richard B. Storey (Carol) of Ash-burn, Virginia, as well as three nieces. A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Manassas Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Dawn M. Mayes will be officiating at the service.
